NYC Art-Rock Ensemble Theophobia Debuts Self-Titled LP

New York City-based art rock band Theophobia is marking a milestone this week with the release of their first full-length studio album. The self-titled project, which includes 13 original tracks, is scheduled for release on July 31.

Formed in 2019 by childhood friends Dylan Mars Greenberg and Matt Ellin, the group has developed a reputation for theatrical, high-energy performances. Their sound draws influence from 1970s art rock figures such as Sparks, Roxy Music, and Jim Steinman. The band’s current lineup has expanded to include guitarist Alan Worm, pianist Michael Butterly, bassist Nick Cerola, and drummer Chris Michaels.

In a statement provided by their label, Insecurity Hits, the band was described as bringing "unabashed ambition" and a sense of humor to the DIY music scene. The label noted that the album aims to capture a broad range of experiences, transforming them into a bold, artistic expression.

Fans can access the music digitally via Bandcamp, while physical copies are available on vinyl through Rough Trade. The album is also seeing an international release in the United Kingdom via HX Records.

To commemorate the launch, the band will headline a release show on August 8 at Main Drag Music, located at 50 South 1st St. in Brooklyn. The event is slated to feature supporting performances from Danny Ayala, 95 Bulls, and Slugbug. Doors for the show are scheduled to open at 7 p.m., with music beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are currently available for purchase online.
