Accessibility
Effective date: July 22, 2026.
New Village Daily is committed to making our reporting available to everyone in the neighborhood. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.
What we do
- Use semantic HTML landmarks (header, main, footer, nav) on every page.
- Provide keyboard focus outlines and support keyboard-only navigation.
- Use color combinations that meet AA contrast on text and interactive controls.
- Write alternative text on article images and label icon-only buttons for screen readers.
- Ensure the map has a text alternative — the story feed below the map lists every story, and each story has its own article page.
- Provide a text-only path to article content that does not require enabling the interactive map.
Known limitations
The interactive map is provided by Google Maps. Google's controls have their own accessibility characteristics. We rely on the story list and article pages as the accessible equivalent.
Report a barrier
If you run into a barrier or need content in an alternative format, please email Admin@newvillagedaily.com with the page URL and a brief description. We aim to respond within 10 business days.
