Teenager Killed in E-Bike Collision Near City Hall

A 17-year-old boy died on Wednesday morning after his e-bike collided with an SUV in Lower Manhattan, according to law enforcement officials. The incident took place near the intersection of Centre and Chambers Streets, a short distance from City Hall.

Preliminary reports from the NYPD indicate that the teenager was traveling northbound on Centre Street when he struck a 2008 black Chevrolet Tahoe. The SUV was also heading north at the time of the collision. The driver of the vehicle, a 40-year-old woman, remained at the scene following the crash.

Emergency medical personnel arrived shortly after the 5th Precinct received a 911 call regarding the incident just before 9 a.m. The young cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have stated that they are withholding the identity of the victim until his family has been notified.

Multiple units from the NYPD, FDNY, and EMS responded to the area, leading to traffic disruptions for morning commuters. The NYPD’s highway collision investigation squad has taken over the inquiry into the circumstances of the crash. As of Wednesday afternoon, the investigation remains ongoing.
