Swatch Debuts New York-Inspired Timepiece in Artist Collaboration
The Swiss watchmaker has partnered with graphic designer David Carson for the latest installment of its global 'Destination Art' series.
Swiss watch manufacturer Swatch has introduced a new timepiece dedicated to New York City, marking the latest entry in its ongoing 'Destination Art' series. The watch, titled 'CARSON TIME,' was developed in collaboration with renowned New York-based graphic designer David Carson.
The design of the watch incorporates visual elements synonymous with the city, including street signage and subway line motifs. According to the manufacturer, the piece is notable for being the first in the brand's history to feature two distinct designs on a single watch, with the case back inscribed with the phrase, "It’s now or never. Or later."
David Carson, a 70-year-old designer recognized for his influential work in typography and collage-style aesthetics, noted that the watch aims to capture the chaotic yet organized energy of the city. Carson, who was awarded a medal by the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) in 2014, has previously produced work for major brands such as Nike and Levi Strauss.
In a press release, Swatch stated that the watch is intended to reflect the "nonstop pulse" of New York. The 'Destination Art' initiative has previously featured collaborations with artists from various international cities, including Amsterdam, Barcelona, and locations in Indonesia.
For local collectors and enthusiasts, the watch is currently available at several Swatch retail locations throughout Manhattan, including stores in Times Square, SoHo, Grand Central Terminal, and the World Trade Center. Outside of the city, the product is also being sold at the company’s Roosevelt Field location in Garden City, Long Island, and at the New York-New York Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
