New Learning Lab Debuts at Jacob Riis Houses
A newly opened facility provides residents with access to digital tools and recording technology as part of a citywide initiative.

Residents of the Jacob Riis Houses now have access to a new innovation hub, which officially opened its doors this past Saturday. The facility is equipped with a variety of digital resources, including desktop computers, Chromebooks, and printers, alongside dedicated podcast recording equipment to support educational and professional development.
The project is the result of a partnership between the Public Housing Community Fund and Amazon. According to project organizers, the installation at the Jacob Riis Houses is part of a broader $500,000 initiative aimed at establishing as many as 50 similar learning labs across New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) developments.
The opening was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local residents and representatives from several organizations, including the Public Housing Community Fund, Thrive Collective, Amazon, NYCHA, and the Jacob Riis Houses Resident Association. While the hub is now operational, specific details regarding daily operating hours and access requirements for residents have not yet been publicly detailed.
