Emergency Crews Execute Flood Rescue in Putnam County

A family trapped by rising floodwaters in Philipstown was successfully rescued on Wednesday, July 29, following a period of intense rainfall in Putnam County.

Members of the North Highlands Fire Department led the operation, coordinating with the Philipstown Highway Department to navigate the hazardous conditions. Rescuers employed a front-end loader to reach the residence, which had become isolated by swift-moving water.

The rescue effort involved a broad coalition of emergency services, including the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police, the Mahopac Falls Dive Team, and various local volunteer fire and ambulance corps. A specialized New York State Swift Water Rescue team was initially dispatched to assist but was stood down once responders confirmed the family had been safely extracted from the property.

In addition to the flooding incident, authorities received reports of downed power lines in the nearby communities of Cold Spring and Garrison. No injuries were reported in connection with the rescue operation.
