Hell's Kitchen Pedestrians Encounter Mobile 'Micropizzeria' in Smart Car

A unique culinary sight has emerged in Hell's Kitchen, where a Smart car parked at 54th Street and 10th Avenue is serving as a mobile kitchen. Known as Pizza Pod NYC, the venture is the work of Bradley Alvelo, who has repurposed the small vehicle to house a portable generator and mini ovens.

Alvelo, who brings two decades of professional cooking experience to the project, stated that the unconventional setup was born from a desire to test his product without the high overhead costs associated with traditional storefronts. The operation offers a menu of nine different 12-inch stone-fired pizzas, prepared directly from the car's trunk.

While the sight of a vehicle-based pizzeria has drawn significant attention from pedestrians and commuters, the business has also expanded beyond street-side service. Alvelo noted that the compact nature of the operation has allowed him to cater various events, including private parties and gatherings at off-Broadway theaters.

Though the concept has gained traction on social media, questions remain regarding the regulatory landscape for such mobile food preparations. It is currently unclear what specific health and street vending permits the operation maintains to function in its current capacity on city streets.

For Alvelo, the project is a return to his roots. He described pizza as a foundational comfort food from his childhood in the Bronx, and he continues to move the operation across the city to reach new customers.
