Ozone Park Residents Honor Local Soldier Killed in Jordan

The Ozone Park community is grieving the loss of Sgt. Angel Rampersad, a 28-year-old soldier who died during an enemy attack in Jordan. According to military reports, the incident occurred on July 17 at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, where Rampersad was serving as part of the ongoing conflict with Iran.

In the days following the announcement of her death, neighbors have gathered along 96th Street, where the soldier resided, to place American flags and leave their lights on as a gesture of solidarity. Family members have described the late sergeant as a dedicated individual who was deeply involved in her church and committed to the protection of others.

"She fought for this country, and she died for this country," her mother, Carol Acevedo, stated, expressing pride in her daughter’s service and focus. President Trump recently oversaw the dignified transfer of the fallen service members at Dover Air Force Base.

To honor her legacy, the Ozone Park Residents Block Association has organized a community vigil scheduled for Monday, July 27. Sam Esposito, president of the association, encouraged residents to attend the event to demonstrate community support and ensure the soldier’s service is remembered. Rampersad is one of 18 American service members reported to have died since the conflict began nearly five months ago.
