An off-duty NYPD officer was hospitalized early Wednesday morning after being stabbed during a confrontation in the Bayside section of Queens.

According to reports from law enforcement sources, the incident occurred at approximately 1 a.m. near the intersection of Bell Boulevard and 39th Avenue. The victim, a 30-year-old officer assigned to the 69th Precinct in Brooklyn, was walking with an acquaintance when they were approached from behind by two men riding bicycles.

Sources indicate that the two men initiated a verbal exchange in Spanish. While the officer reportedly did not understand the remarks, the interaction escalated into a physical altercation. During the struggle, one of the individuals produced a knife and stabbed the officer in the right hand. The two suspects subsequently fled the scene on foot, heading north along Bell Boulevard.

Emergency responders transported the officer, a seven-year veteran of the department, to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital. Officials stated that the injuries sustained were not life-threatening.

Officers from the 111th Precinct are leading the investigation into the attack. As of Wednesday afternoon, no arrests had been made in connection with the incident.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the identity or whereabouts of the suspects to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-577-TIPS. Tips can also be submitted online at crimestoppers.nypdonline.org or via the department’s official tip account on X, @NYPDTips. All communications are handled confidentially.
