Citywide 'National Night Out' to Foster Community Ties on August 4

New York City residents will have the opportunity to connect with local law enforcement and community organizations during the annual National Night Out Against Crime, scheduled for Tuesday, August 4, 2026. The nationwide initiative, which first began in 1984, seeks to build stronger relationships between police departments and the public while promoting neighborhood safety.

Across the five boroughs, participating NYPD precincts are planning a variety of free, family-friendly activities. While programming varies by location, attendees can expect a mix of music, games, food, and public safety demonstrations.

Several precincts have announced unique highlights for this year’s festivities. In Brooklyn, the 72nd Precinct’s gathering at Sunset Park will include a bicycle giveaway, while the 113th Precinct at Baisley Pond Park in Queens has scheduled music by DJ Shug. In Williamsburg, the 90th Precinct’s event at Rodney Park will host the Brooklyn Public Library’s 'Bookmobile 75,' marking 75 years of the library’s mobile outreach. Staff will be on-site to assist with library card renewals, new registrations, and book checkouts.

Other areas, such as Upper Manhattan, are planning events with a traditional block party atmosphere, featuring summer-themed refreshments and various interactive games.

Organizers emphasize that these events are designed to encourage residents to get to know their neighbors and local officers in a relaxed setting. While dozens of locations have already been confirmed, officials note that additional event details may be announced as the date approaches. All scheduled events are free to the public.
