Livery Cab Driver Hospitalized Following Fort Greene Shooting

A 50-year-old livery cab driver is in stable condition after being shot early Friday morning in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. The incident occurred shortly before 4:15 a.m. on North Portland Avenue, situated between Park and Myrtle avenues.

According to police, the driver’s vehicle, a black SUV, was involved in a minor collision with a transport van. Following the crash, an unidentified individual approached the driver’s side of the SUV and fired into the vehicle, striking the driver in the right cheek.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported the victim to NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. Authorities reported that the driver was conscious and able to communicate with medical personnel during transport.

The assailant, described by investigators as a man with a large build who was wearing a black shirt and gray shorts, fled the area on foot. Police report that the individual was last seen entering the nearby Walt Whitman NYCHA housing development.

Detectives are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, specifically seeking to determine the nature of the interaction between the crash and the subsequent shooting. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
