Investigation Underway After Infant Found Unresponsive in Canarsie Home

Police were called to a residence near Flatlands Avenue early Wednesday morning; the child was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Authorities are investigating the death of a six-month-old infant who was discovered unresponsive inside a Brooklyn home early Wednesday morning.

According to the NYPD, officers were dispatched to a residence near the intersection of Flatlands Avenue and East 99th Street in Canarsie at approximately 12:00 a.m. following a 911 call. Upon arrival, emergency personnel found the child in an unconscious state.

The infant was transported by EMS to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where they were subsequently pronounced dead.

As of Wednesday evening, no arrests have been reported in connection with the incident. The NYPD stated that the investigation remains active. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is tasked with determining the official cause and manner of death.

The identity of the infant has been withheld by officials pending the notification of the child's family members.
