New Mural Brings Vibrant Art to East Village Supportive Housing

A fresh artistic addition is taking shape on the facade of Freedom Village, the 13-story supportive housing development located at 270 E. Second St. The mural, titled "Freedom, Community and Being Reborn," is the work of local artist Scooter LaForge.

According to reports, the installation is the culmination of roughly 18 months of planning and dialogue. The design centers on motifs of optimism, resilience, and the transition from hardship to new beginnings. LaForge has incorporated a prominent purple palette throughout the piece, a choice intended to align with the branding of Barrier Free Living, the organization that operates the facility.

Freedom Village, which began welcoming residents earlier this year, serves as a resource for individuals with disabilities and survivors of domestic violence, offering both stable housing and specialized support services.

While the project is nearing its final stages, work remains ongoing. Once the painting is complete, the artist is expected to apply a final signature and a protective UV-resistant sealant to ensure the longevity of the installation against the elements.
