Federal Plaza Incident Leads to Arrest of Army Veteran

Federal authorities have taken a suspect into custody following a volatile confrontation outside 26 Federal Plaza in Lower Manhattan on Monday morning. The incident, which occurred shortly before 8:40 a.m., involved an individual allegedly setting a fire near the entrance of the building, which houses immigration courts and detention offices.

According to reports from law enforcement sources, the suspect—identified by officials as an Army veteran—approached the facility with a cart containing fireworks. The resulting blaze produced significant smoke, prompting an immediate response from federal officers who apprehended the individual at the scene.

Emergency responders from the FDNY arrived to extinguish the flames. Three individuals sustained burn injuries during the event; two declined medical attention, while one person was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

Investigators recovered several items from the scene, including the fireworks and objects resembling rifles. While initial reports suggested these weapons might be airsoft replicas, authorities have not yet confirmed their status.
