Law enforcement officials are investigating the death of an unidentified man discovered in the Mount Hope section of the Bronx on Thursday morning.

According to reports from the 46th Precinct, the individual—estimated to be in his 40s—was found unresponsive beneath a sidewalk shed at 154 East 175th St. at approximately 10:30 a.m. Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived shortly thereafter and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

While the investigation is in its early stages, police sources indicated that the man was not carrying identification and is believed to have been experiencing homelessness. Investigators reported finding drug paraphernalia in the immediate vicinity of the body.

Authorities stated that there were no visible signs of trauma on the individual, leading them to pursue a preliminary theory that the death may have been caused by an overdose. At this time, police do not suspect criminal activity, though the inquiry remains active.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is expected to perform an autopsy to establish an official cause of death. Further details regarding the man's identity are pending notification of next of kin.
