Fatal Five-Alarm Fire Leaves Dozens Injured in Flushing

A major fire that escalated to five alarms tore through a residential block in Flushing, Queens, on Saturday, July 25, 2026, resulting in at least one death and dozens of injuries. Emergency crews were dispatched to 132-15 41st Road shortly before 10 a.m. after reports of flames emerging from the first floor of a two-story woodframe structure.

As the fire intensified, it spread to two adjacent buildings, prompting a massive response from the FDNY. By mid-afternoon, approximately 270 fire and emergency personnel were on-site managing the scene. FDNY Chief of Fire Operations Kevin Woods noted the rapid progression of the blaze, which made containment efforts particularly challenging for responding units.

While officials have confirmed that one resident died in the incident, the exact number of injuries remains subject to varying reports. Gothamist reported that 23 people were injured, including 21 firefighters and two residents, while other outlets have provided differing figures regarding the total count of personnel treated for injuries. One occupant was successfully rescued from the burning home and transported to a local hospital in serious condition.

The fire caused significant damage to the original structure, which was built in 1930, as well as the two connected homes. Approximately 12 residents have been displaced as a result of the destruction. As of late Saturday, the cause of the fire had not been determined by investigators. The incident remains under active review by the fire department.
