Martial Arts Studio Closes Doors on Avenue C

A familiar fixture at the southwest corner of Avenue C and 11th Street has officially ceased operations. The Champions Martial Arts studio, which had served the East Village community since 2019, closed its doors last month.

The studio was known for its youth-oriented programming, including the "Little Tigers" curriculum. Local observers noted that the storefront had become a social hub for neighborhood families, with parents frequently gathering on the sidewalk to watch their children during training sessions.

This location has a history of commercial turnover. Before the martial arts studio moved in seven years ago, the space was occupied by New York Health Choice, also known as the Eastside Market, which shuttered in 2017.

While the brand maintains a significant presence with over 80 locations across the United States and more than a dozen throughout the metropolitan area, the future of this specific storefront remains uncertain. Community members have expressed interest in the site's next tenant, with some residents voicing a preference for retail or service-oriented businesses over additional nightlife establishments.
