Bronx Stabbing Victim Faces Further Delays as Trial Postponed

A Bronx woman who survived a violent attack in 2025 is expressing frustration as the criminal case against her alleged assailant faces yet another postponement. Kaitlynn Berman, who sustained 22 stab wounds during the March 2025 incident, appeared at the Bronx Supreme Court this week hoping for progress, only to be met with a further delay.

The proceedings, which were intended to address a potential plea deal, were adjourned until September 16 due to an ongoing strike by public defenders. This latest setback adds to a long-standing sense of uncertainty for Berman, who has been vocal about the emotional and physical toll of the legal process. She suffered significant injuries during the attack, including permanent nerve damage that continues to affect her daily life.

The suspect, Christopher Joseph, was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with attempted murder. However, he was released without bail in December 2025. According to reports, this release followed a procedural lapse regarding the timely filing of paperwork by the prosecution.

Berman and her advocates have raised concerns about the suspect’s continued freedom, noting that he remains unmonitored. Furthermore, Berman alleges that Joseph has violated a standing restraining order by engaging in social media activity directed at her. These claims have intensified calls from supporters for more decisive action within the judicial system.

While the court considers a proposed plea agreement involving a 10-year prison sentence and five years of supervised release, Berman has indicated that she believes such a term is insufficient given the severity of the assault. As the September trial date approaches, the victim remains in a state of apprehension, citing the proximity of her alleged attacker and the lack of resolution in her case.
