603 Arts Foundation Debuts With Speculative Exhibition at Nunu Fine Art

The newly established 603 Arts Foundation, founded by Kate Lee and Clovis Lima Jr., is set to host its inaugural exhibition at Nunu Fine Art in SoHo. Titled *The cataclysm of binary star systems*, the show opens on Saturday, August 8, and will remain on view through August 29.

The exhibition features works from twelve artists representing nine countries across Asia, Latin America, and their respective diasporas. Participating artists include Ana Won, Leah Ying Lin, Rithika Merchant, Keb Cerda, and José John Santos III. The collection explores a speculative premise: a binary star system that renders Earth uninhabitable, forcing humanity to consider what elements of culture, history, and identity are essential to preserve during an evacuation.

According to the foundation, the exhibition serves as more than a temporary display; it reflects a commitment to long-term acquisition and preservation. By focusing on building a permanent collection, the founders aim to influence which narratives and artistic contributions are retained for future study. The show addresses complex themes including ecological instability, technological surveillance, and the persistence of cultural memory despite forced migration.

Nunu Fine Art, which expanded to New York from Taipei in 2023, serves as the venue for the debut. The gallery’s name, which draws on the concept of a router, aligns with the exhibition’s focus on the transmission of human experience.
