12-Year-Old Boy Fatally Shot in Mt. Eden

A 12-year-old boy was killed by a stray bullet while riding his bicycle in the Mt. Eden section of the Bronx on Saturday afternoon, according to local authorities. The incident occurred just before 5 p.m. at the corner of Walton Avenue and Elliot Place.

Preliminary reports from the NYPD suggest the youth was caught in the crossfire when a dispute among a larger group escalated into violence. Witnesses at the scene reported hearing approximately five gunshots before observing a suspect vehicle, described as a Jeep, fleeing the area.

In addition to the fatality, two other individuals were struck by gunfire. A 34-year-old man sustained a wound to his foot, and a 25-year-old was struck in the backside. Both men were transported for medical treatment and are expected to survive their injuries.

As of Sunday morning, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Police have not yet released the identity of the 12-year-old victim, and investigators have not provided a detailed description of the suspects involved.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani addressed the tragedy on social media, expressing condolences to the victim's family and friends. "Our children should be able to ride their bikes on a nice summer day in their neighborhood without fear of being shot," Mamdani wrote, while calling for the public to assist in the ongoing investigation.

The NYPD continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the altercation and the subsequent gunfire. Officials have not yet disclosed whether the individuals involved in the initial argument were known to one another.
